Candle fire safety week 2025

As the nights draw in, candles can be the perfect way to create a warm and cosy atmosphere in your home.
BUT
Candles are one of the most common causes of fires in the home. As part of National Candle Fire Safety week, we’re sharing some top tips to keep you and your family safe and reduce the risk of a fire in your home.
Never leave candles unattended
Make sure candles are extinguished before you leave the room or go to sleep.
Make sure you place them carefully
- Keep candles away from flammable objects like curtains, furniture and bedding.
- Make sure they are on a sturdy, stable surface and in a fireproof holder.
- Don’t light lots of candles close to each other – this can cause the flames to flare
- Keep them out of reach of children.
- And don’t move them when they are lit
Use safer alternatives
LED candles are much safer and will still create that same cosy atmosphere. Make sure you by these from a reputable retailer so that they meet the British Safety Standards.
