£20m funding will help make tenants’ homes warmer and more energy efficient

Investing in your homes

We’ve secured a new £20 million loan from Principality Building Society to invest in tenants’ homes and provide more affordable homes across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the surrounding areas.

The funding will support our warmer homes programme. Through this work, we’re improving the energy efficiency of our homes, so they are warmer, more comfortable and take less energy to heat.

What this means for tenants

We know household budgets remain under pressure and that keeping a home warm can be difficult, especially during colder months. Making homes more energy efficient can help them retain heat and reduce the energy needed to keep them comfortable.

The investment will help us work towards making sure all our homes have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of C or above by 2030. The improvements needed will vary from home to home, and we’ll contact tenants to talk through what we’re planning before any work begins.

Investing in homes and communities

Part of the funding will also support our programme to build more affordable homes. With many families on the council waiting lists across our communities, this investment will provide more homes and help meet local housing needs.

This £20 million loan is in addition to the £140 million funding package we announced earlier this year with Barclays Bank and Santander.

Both agreements support our commitment to invest in homes, neighbourhoods and new affordable housing and our aim to make sure everyone has a warm, safe and affordable home.
