New homes for Wotton-under-Edge

Work has now started to build 10 affordable homes in Synwell, Wotton-under-Edge, on the site of the former Full Moon pub.

Stroud District Council has contributed £190,000 towards the project that will see affordable housing provider Two Rivers Housing acquire 10 completed 2 and 3 bedroom houses from developer Woodbourne Group, all of which be available for Shared Ownership. Homes England has also contributed to the cost of the project.

Tani Dulay, Chief Executive of Woodbourne Group, commented: “Developers are tasked with the enactment of national policy imperatives, building the homes this country needs. We take this seriously and look forward to making a positive contribution to the Stroud district“

Garry King, Chief Executive of Two Rivers Housing, added: “There is an acute shortage of affordable homes in the Stroud district and in particular in rural settlements and we are delighted to have received the support from Stroud District Council for this exciting scheme in a beautiful town.

“It will provide much needed affordable homes in this rural area as Two Rivers Housing is committed to providing opportunities in high value areas where buying a home or renting privately is extremely challenging for those on average incomes.“

Stroud District Councillor Catherine Braun said: “It’s good news for local people that this development site in Synwell is been built for Two Rivers Housing Association to provide affordable homes.“

Councillor Ken Tucker added: “I am delighted that building on this site in Synwell has now started. The provision of 2/3 bedroom affordable homes in our town will really benefit local residents. I am pleased that funding from both Homes England and Stroud District Council have made this possible, which both Councillor George Butcher and I have continually supported. We look forward to seeing the first home being completed by Two Rivers Housing in spring 2019.”

The first homes are due to be completed in April 2019 and the whole project finished by the end of June 2019.

Two Rivers Housing has 4,000 rental properties of various sizes and styles in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire and an ambitious delivery programme that will increase the choice of homes people can afford to live in.
